Early in 1971, I attended a play in London, "Captain Brassbound's Conversion." After the play, I waited with many others outside the artist's entrance. After a time, she appeared and I
waited patiently until I was the final autograph hound of the evening. Shown here in the leftmost photo, she signed my program while I took this picture and told her how I had admired her. (center:
the full page she signed; right: enlargement of her autograph)
I will never forget her voice, sounding as if she had just stepped off the plane from Casablanca to Lisbon. She looked up at me from the page she had just signed, smiled sweetly and said "Thank You."
